ABOUT THE AUTHOR


The author of this year's Read selection is His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.   A Tibetan monk, the Dalai Lama is a spiritual leader who has traveled extensively to promote ethics and policies of non-violence worldwide.

He has received nearly 90 awards and honorary doctorates in recognition of his message of peace, non-violence, inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion.

He is a winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, and the first Nobel Laureate to be recognized for his concern for global environmental problems.

The Dalai Lama will be visiting UC Santa Barbara on April 24, 2009.
